[NTLUG:Discuss] Number of groups per user in Linux

I noticed there is a thread on the solaris newsgroup
news:comp.unix.solaris

about the fact that Solaris defaults to a maximum of 16
groups per user max... but can be tuned to 32, but will
break in a couple of places.

The reason I'm posting this is that there was
a question about this in the Beginnier's Group this
month about this.

So.. for *ix portability, 16 sounds like the number
to assume.

In kernel 2.2 seemed Linux would handle 32, but now
it appears that NGROUPS_MAX is set to
65535!!!  Now... that's a lot of groups.  I'm
not sure if some things will break if you go beyond
32... some things might not even like it if you
go beyond 16.
