Did you try and access ports other than ttyS0-3?  Like ttyS4 also if you
could run "dmesg | grep tty" send us the output.  Another thing is lspci.
Just because it didn't jump up and tell ya you have a modem on com x doesn't
mean it isn't recognized by the kernel it just may be a non standard port
and as such not checked by scripts like pppconfig.  If you do locate the
modem on a nonstandard port you should be able to get pppconfig working by
creating a symlink to the port use "ln -s /dev/ttyX /dev/modem" to create a
symbolic link from /dev/modem to the actual modem device.  This should make
it work ok with pppconfig.  Good luck.

I recently downloaded Debain and installed it on my computer. I am
trying to get it to work with my US Robotics 5610B modem. The modem is
on the PCI bus and has a controller in it. I have tried using pppconfig,
but it does not seem to be able to find the modem. Does any one have any
suggestions. Also, once I get the modem configured/installed, how do I
get it to dial out?
