Debian 3.0 supports kernel 2.4.  You should be able to install it with a 
simple:

apt-get install kernel-image-2.4

This won't necessarily solve your problems, though.  You might want to 
consider upgrading to Debian Sarge.  Either with apt-get or a fresh 
install with the linux2.6 option:

For full support of your nvidia you will probably want to install 
packages from:

http://people.debian.org/~rdonald/index.php
