[NTLUG:Discuss] SUSE 9.1 - Firefox only runs for root

I've been trying to fix this problem - but haven't been able to crack it.

I have Suse9.1 on an IBM T23 Thinkpad.  I've installed Firefox [v .8 or .9]
from the DVD then upgraded it with YAST.  The problem --- I can not start 
the browser as an ordinary user.

If I use sudo firefox, or su to root and launch firefox - it works just 
fine.  However, I
really don't want to surf the web as root !!!!!   Konqueror just doesn't do 
it for me, and that's
all I have at this point.

Anyone run into this before that could offer some sound advise - I'd be 
grateful.  And at this
point I'd consider any great ideas, words of wisdom, vague concepts, or 
blank stares.

BTW - my user is a member of the groups root and wheel.
