[NTLUG:Discuss] PIC microcontrollers

Has anyone here developed software for any of Microchip's PIC 
microcontrollers under Linux?  I know that there are many tools out 
there and I'm evaluating some of them now(having some trouble with 
pikdev), but what I'm looking for are personal experiences.  What 
environment was used, c or just asm, hobby or professional development, 
experience with various hardware programmers and debuggers...
