Ok, I found the problem. I saved my document with the graphics on/off
toggle set to off. Now it works.
I also got the drawing to work for doing circuit diagrams. I found a
site that had circuit components for OO. I am making up an exam for the
high school physics classes that I teach. OO is for me so much more
intuitive than Word. No paper clip follies and I can easily stop OO from
interfering with the way I want things done. Word drives me nuts.
BTW, I just love the export to pdf in OO. That is what I email to my
school address and use to print my documents without hassle.
Sorry for the disjointed ranting of a word processing amateur.
