There may be a better way - but if all else fails then:

   "Use the source Luke."

It's easy to forget that you have the sources to every program
on the system.  It should be REALLY easy to find the line in
the 'mail' program that prints out that message and simply comment
it out.  Then you can compile your own version of mail (call it
something else) that'll do the job.
