[NTLUG:Discuss] OK to replace glibc?

[Resending from my subscribed email address. duh!]

Current environment:
CentOS 4.0
AMD K6-2 processor (reports as i586)
glibc-2.3.4-2.i386.rpm
glibc-common-2.3.4-2.i386.rpm

Can I replace:
glibc-2.3.4-2.i386.rpm
with
glibc-2.3.4-2.i586.rpm
without making any other changes (both rpms built by the same people)?

If the answer is yes, will rpm know what I am doing or will I need
to use '--force'?

Thanks!
Rick
