[NTLUG:Discuss] Video player / software format

Howdy,
I would have suggested mpeg until recently. I downloaded a bunch of
conference talks from the Gnome User Conference(GUADEC) a couple of
weeks ago. They had an extension of .ogg, which I did not even know was
a video format. I have tried playing them on a variety of Linux
machines and they played fine on every machine. Now, I just need to
figure out what they really are. My SuSE 9.2 machine, for example is
kind of funny. If I select the file in Nautilus and tell it to play, it
does fine. If I open up Mplayer and use its file open dialog, then ogg
format does not show up in video formats, but if I select it in audio
formats, it plays fine, including the video. Bottom line is that it
played fine everywhere. If you want to try the videos, look here:

Good luck,
Ralph
