I visited nerdbooks today, EXCELLENT selection and a very cool dog on site ha! 
Met the owner and talked for a bit. The prices are very good as it is run as 
a warehouse for his online book service. You make your purchase by visiting 
one of the computers on site and logging into the website and making a 
purchase using a scanner at each terminal. You pay online and then he prints 
a receipt and you are on your way. They will be glad to help locate  a book, 
but they do not "check you out" per se.  Have to say I like the method and 
the prices.

Besides he is running his back end with Linux, PHP and MySQL, so he can't be 
that bad ha!
