Robert, I'm running XP as the guest OS under a Linux host.  VMWare is 
pretty slick.  There is no perfomance penalty at all on my system (I 
have 1GB RAM), and I've had no Windows crashes since I started six 
months ago.  It's mainly because of the XP virtual disk files that I 
need more room.   I.e., VMWare has to create a file (or files) equal to 
the size of your Windows virtual disk.
