I usually make sure I have the whole of the /etc/ directory along with
/home.  If I have software installed in weird places (i.e. /opt or
/usr/local), then I try to back that up as well.  I try very hard to avoid
that, though - I try to find or build RPMs for all my installed software
so that I can rebuild the machine as quickly as possible.

I also use /root/anaconda-ks.cfg to create a ks.cfg file that I can use to
kickstart my servers to speed up recovery (Red Hat products only, I
think).
