For my USB2 thumb drive -- just an SD card (from a digital camera)
plopped into a container built for it with a USB2 interface -- I passed
the slice in the mount command. The dmesg command showed the device
(sdb) and just one slice (sdb1). The solution is essentially the same as
for John's drive.

Now what is the best solution to automate the mounting upon detection of
the hotplugged USB2 device? I could easily place an alias command
in .bashrc, but that is not automatic.
