I recently heard about the Verizon + Yahoo! DSL deal. I am comparing
it to the Verizon + M$ DSL combination. I use dial-up now.
VZ + M$ = $30/mo 3.0G/768k
VZ + Y! = $15/mo 768k/128k
I'd like to hear from those that switched from the 768k to the 3.0G
or someone that has compared the two. Not factoring big downloads,
do you really notice a dramatic speed diff using 3.0G vs 768k for
surfing the inet? What if you have 2-4 different pages hit at the
same time (ie: tabbed browsing)?
My planned usage is not online gaming. Just an occasional big d/l
that wouldn't bother me too much to take longer and hopefully
some occasional u/l of images to my website. If the real-world
speed difference is significant, then I might be convinced it's
worth the extra $15/mo. I suspect that most of the wait time is
really the far-side server of any given site though.
Not part of my criteria at this time but what if I wanted to remote
a desktop (X or the awlful M$)? What d/l speed is needed to have
a reasonable response for a remoted desktop?
