If you have a floppy drive available, Slackware comes with a utility
called the, Smart Boot Manager, that is excellent for this type of
problem where the BIOS simply won't boot off of a CD.

In the rootdisks directory on the install cd there is a disk image named
sbootmgr.dsk. Use Rawrite or dd to copy this to a floppy and boot from
it. You should get a menu allowing you to select from various boot
devices, hopefully it will have an entry for the CDROM.

I use this to get an old HP machine to boot from a modern harddrive.
For some reason LILO will hang if it is loaded by the BIOS, but will
work fine if Smart Boot Manger loads first and then loads LILO.

Hope this helps,
Stephen Klein
