Older bioses like the Slackware 7.1 CD to boot from, they don't like the
ISO boot.
You have two routes to take:
1) use 10.1 to make the boot and root disk floppies (a total of 3
floppies). Use these to start the kernel and root, which should let you
find the CD correctly and go from there.
2) get Slackare 7.1, do a base install ("a" set only). Boot this and do
an upgrade to 8.1, "a" only, FOLLOW ALL OF THE UPGRADE INSTRUCIONS. Then
do the upgrade to 10.1 and install everything you want.
FYI, I have a 486DX 33 with 16M ram running Slackware 7.1.... ;D
