A month ago, I dropped my old cumbersome Palm IIIx and the screen
cracked. Not a big deal as I bought it used and it seemed so limited.
I have been using my cell phone's calendar to remind me of various
events for my older 2 kids: Boy Scouts, baseball games/prac, football,
band, etc. A paper calendar just won't cut it. I need a gadget to
give me a nudge in a timely manor. The Sanyo cell phone's calendar
is very limited. I could have my computer email my phone as each
event comes near. But, that would mean an extra $15/mo internet
"vision" service. No thanks. PDA phones are too expensive ($500)
and Sprint has deliberately stopped making the means of xfering
calendar info via serial/USB wired connect. You must have the $15/mo
inet service and xfer data that way. I bet there is a way to write a
linux driver and get the right cable. I will be investigating that angle.

In the meantime, I'm looking into a PDA solution. I'd like to see what
Linux based PDAs bought/hand-brewed there are (Palm or non-Palm).
An ideal PDA would be easy to read, even outside. Great resolution
and in color. Primary usage is calendar/reminder. Also, I'd like to
hear what other people use successfully (non-PDA ideas). Please
don't flood NTLUG with non-Linux ideas.

PS: I miss the Newton. It understood my handwriting very well and
you could draw circle/line/box objects (resize/repos). However, it's
apetite for batteries was huge and rechargables ment removing the
batteries each time; it's screen was so-so, and it was on the bulky
side. I liked the no-slip rubbery texture: never dropped the Newton!
