[NTLUG:Discuss] GPS Mapping Software

Hi,

I have a Magellan eXplorist 600 that I have been using with a couple of
different mapping programs under Linux, gpsdrive and roadmap. Both work
reasonably well for displaying the NMEA output from the GPS on a moving
map display on my laptop.

I am looking for a way to take the mapping information on the laptop and
use it to create a detailed map I can load on the GPS. Obviously, I'm
looking for a Linux solution. Roadmap has good access to mapping
information plus I can always download the US Census Bureau Tiger info
directly. However, I haven't found anything (including gpsbabel) that
will take the map info and convert it into a format for loading on the
GPS.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Rick
