Thanks for all the input. I removed the hdd and put it in another
system, then e2fsck'ed it and found a butt load of errors in all 3
partitions. More than a little cleaning was required, so I put it
back in her system, couldn't find the 9.0 distro cd's so I found a
9.3 set and did a fresh install w/format of the 1st 2 partitions (/
and /usr). Now it's running again, and in a lot shorter time than it
would have taken to try to fix the problems, if that were even
possible.
No, the disk wasn't full. It's 60G with about 2.5G used. All of the
partitions were just loafing along with gobs of room. It must have
taken multiple power hits. That's the best guess I can come up with,
followed by a deteriorating hard drive. Log files were no help except
to say that xinetd couldn't be found. Big clue, eh? Anyway, it's
running and thanks again.
