Maybe you have a bad RAM block. What does 'free' say? Does the 'Mem:'
line have about the right amount under the 'total' column? It should
approximately match the amount of physical RAM you have.
Is it possible that your swap partition is missing or corrupt?
What does 'cat /proc/swaps' say?
