A couple of quick items:

--Thanks to everyone who has expressed support for the Open
Source program being developed at North Lake College. Your kind
words are greatly appreciated, and I'm always open to suggestions,
criticisms, and comments.

--Apache and PHP will be offered again in an 8-week format beginning
Oct. 24. These are semester-length, hands-on courses compressed into
8-weeks and cover beginning and intermediate aspects of each topic.
They are taught by industry experts who are active in open source
projects in their specific industries. Security is interwoven
throughout these courses. The upcoming schedule:

Apache Installation and Configuration (IMED 1391)
5:45-9:25 MW, 5:45-7:35 F

Programming Using PHP (ITSE 1391)
5:45-9:25 TR, 5:45-7:35 F

Completion of the Linux Installation and Administration course or
prior Linux/Unix experience is strongly recommended, as these courses
are self-paced and there is little time to cover Linux/Unix
fundamentals.

Feel free to contact me, either by e-mail or at my office number
(972.273.3461) for details about these or other OSS offerings in the
works. You can also stop by and visit; I'm in the T-Building, Room
T-135. For registration, call 972.273.3450. Registration continues
through Monday for these courses.

--Would you be willing to enroll in hybrid or on-line OSS courses? A
hybrid course is one which is split between the traditional campus
classes and distance education. I am planning on transitioning some
of the OSS offerings to one or both formats, and would appreciate your
input. Let me know if this is a topic you feel strongly about one
way or another.

--In case you missed it, our Open Source Technology certificate
program was featured on the front page of Slashdot:
