I have several Canon and Nikon digicams (compact flash), but even under
M$ have never installed the drivers - I got one of the cheapie CF
Readers at Fry's (under $15 for usb 2.0 if I recall) which turns it into
a thumb drive, no drivers necessary -- if your system can use a thumb
drive it could use one of these, and they often even include a usb
extension cable for the price. As soon as I plug it in (Suse 9.3)
konqueror offers to open a window on the data and I can view the photos
with it or gwenview/whatever.

I realize you may not want to have to even take the CF out of the
camera, and *SOME* digicams (recent Olympus models at least?) look like
a thumb drive to the OS, no drivers needed, but I don't know about the 20D.
