Something is not right. Knoppix should boot right up and not have
any issues because of the state the hard disk is in. The number one
reason I've seen for these kinds of phenomenon are CDs that have been
burned too quickly, with faulty downloads a close second. In both
cases, the data is mostly there on the CD. But when the CD is moved
to a different CD-ROM, especially an older CD-ROM, all kinds of weird
things start happening: kernel panics, lockups, cloop errors, etc.
So the simplest solution is to check your ISO by running an MD5 sum
on it. Once you've verified that the ISO image is good, burn another
CD slowly, <8x, or as slow as your CD burner and software can handle.
Then boot up with the new CD like before: "boot: knoppix noswap 1"
It should boot without issue. If it still give you problems boot
with "boot: knoppix noswap debug -b 1" Knoppix will be more verbose
and you'll go through a few more boot stages. Just type "exit" to
leave one stage and go to the next.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.
