I personally see no need to apologize. If we can't discuss the issue
like a group of mature adults, then this probably isn't a group worth
getting involved with.
Reference you comments about Linux certification: It's been my
experience that most certification efforts are money-making
enterprises that are more concerned with the profit-making aspects of
certification rather than the contributions to IT. We tried to get
a quality Linux certification program in place here at North Lake, but
the costs were astronomically high, and without a potential audience
willing to pay, it would have gone nowhere.
So in defense of the LUG, it might have been a situation where there
simply was not a viable alternative to free certification. A
certification isn't worth the paper it's printed on unless it's
recognized as having some value by the industry.
I would very much like to be able to offer the community a very
low-cost Linux certification path, and it's something I'm currently
working on. But I refuse to offer a certification that isn't at least
a gold standard in the industry, and I've yet to find a low-cost
certification program that is.
