Since I sent the first email, I tried your suggestion of changing
mirrors.  I'm sorry to say, it didn't work.

This is the error message:

A panel reports: error installing patch 'java-1_4_2-sun'

Choosing the details option, I read:

ERROR(InstTarget-E_RpmDB_subprocess_failed)
