I have had a similar problem with SuSE 9.3.
My problem occurs during the "Installation" rather than the "Download".
I get similar error messages to yours.
The fix, for me, for the "Installation" problem is to modify the
"/etc/sysconfig/onlineupdate" file.
Change the line---
YOU_USE_DELTAS=""
to read
YOU_USE_DELTAS="no"
I have had no more problems with "Installation" failures I did this.
The "Download" problem fix is to find and delete corrupted download files.
My corrupted downloads left a bad file in my home directory of---
"~/.yast2/you/mnt/i386/update/9.3/patches"
Look for files with a similar name to your failed download.
Once you get familiar with the "YOU" and "YaST2" process
the log messages will point you to the exact problem file.
I have also had problems with "Bad" youservers. I did not get
any updates for a long time. I finally ran the process manually and
discovered the "youservers" I had selected were not responding
correctly. I had to change the "youservers" on all my machines
to get updates. Eventually those quit working and now I am back
to the original except for "ops.tamu".
So far SuSE has been better for me than Fedora Core 1, 2, 3, or 4
for updates and trouble-free operation.
DISCLAIMER:
I am not an expert. I cannot explain any of this.
I just fixed the problem with a solution that works for me.
I am open to hearing about better solutions.
YMMV
