[NTLUG:Discuss] SUSE dual boot installation

I tried to install SUSE Linux 10.0 for dual boot with Windows XP.  It failed 
with an error message at the start of partitioning.  Instructions said to use 
Disk Scan and Disk Defragmenter before a dual boot installation.  There was 
no disk scan, so I tried Disk Cleanup.  It did not help.  

A report on Linuxgazette.net said to use chkdsk instead of Disk Scan.  I 
remembered this as a command for the command line.  Back to XP, call up a DOS 
prompt, and use chkdsk.  It found a disk error and asked permission to fix 
it.  I did as asked, ran Disk Defragmenter again, and SUSE installed without 
any problems.

Please do not repeat my mistakes.  They make life frustrating.
