I'm trying to install KnoppMyth and keep hanging after
the install on first boot over X setup.  Can someone 
 with time (and development hardware) on their hands
confirm this distro is broken and it isn't just me
missing something obvious?

You will need a PC with a TV Card and an empty hard
drive... Altho it is derived from Knoppix, but it must
be installed to hard drive to be functional. 

It takes about 10 minutes to do the install, then it
tries to download NVIDIA drivers on the first boot and
doesn't succeed (even tho I've got the box on a
firewalled, DHCP served intranet) then I can't make
any X work, even plain VGA 640x480x16 mode with server
VESA or FBDEV.
