I spent about 2 1/2 hours looking through the Ubuntu forums with no luck 
and three minutes after sending my plea for help I found:

dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

which allowed me to reconfigure the video.  I am now back at my normal 
resolution and your response was the first e-mail I received.  Thanks 
for the reply.  Dennis
