If you want to talk about something mind-numbing, I'd have to say that
this would include all these articles trying to tell me what the health
of Microsoft is. Quite frankly, I feel the same today as I day 4 years
ago about MS in comparison to Linux. MS is irrelevant.
Linux does not need MS to be successful, and its OSS community model has
worked in such a way that MS can't buy out a company, shut it down, and
withdraw it from the world like they've done to so many other
companies/systems before. And I think it is a *HUGE* mistake for Linux
to 1) Make MS the 'Gold' standard upon which Programs and Operating
Systems are measured, and 2) For Linux to be emulating MS in any way,
shape, or form in the name of competition that doesn't exist. Nowadays,
I guess nobody has noticed that even Linux has said from the very
beginning that Linux wasn't created to be a MS competitor.
Linux has been standing on its own merits for the past few years, and
people are still adopting it in large numbers despite the volumes of
people trying to make Linux conform to: 1)There can be only be 1
program/desktop/kernel/company/etc., 2) Linux has to emulate and adopt
all things MS (Mono, MS Active Controls, etc.), and 3) Linux still has
to make money the MS way. Well, I'm glad to say that I've seen that
Linux has thrived over the years with a lot of choices despite not
emulating a lot of MS protocols (Java, rather than C# is a good example
of that), and despite that I've seen consultants make much more money
lately on customizing or creating OSS software, rather than to rely on
MS program fees.
So, If it is all the same to you, I'd rather read the new Linux news
that continually comes out, rather than worrying about when the last
time MS sneezed, thanks. I really don't care if MS business is healthy
(although I do root for the European Union in hopes they levy record
fines on MS).
