[NTLUG:Discuss] GRUB Password

Today in class, I attempted to demonstrate password security built into 
GRUB.  The actions that I took were:
1.   From XTerm, ran grub, entered password  --md5crypt, and desired 
password at prompt.  Copied encrypted password to clipboard.
2.   Opened /boot/grub/grub.conf file using gedit.  Entered line before 
the label section of "password --md5 'encrypted-password' (by pasting).
3.   Rebooted computer, but system rebooted normally without requesting 
boot-password.

Any thoughts on what I might have done wrong.  Would appreciate any 
thoughts.
