I agree that this sounds like a problem that degaussing might fix - but
actually going to the trouble of finding a degaussing gizmo is unnecessary.

Most (if not all) CRT monitors degauss automatically when you turn them on.

If you've had a monitor running continuously for months - then you might
want to turn it off and on a few times (wait at least 30 seconds between
off/on cycles).

Other monitors have a degauss function you can get at from the monitor's
own menu system.

One clear sign of a magnetised screen is that white objects near the
edges of the screen have red, green or blue coloured fringes on one
side or the other.
