The problem with Jet Direct or any other print server is
the lack of full bi-directional communication with the
printer.  So if your printer runs of of ink.. you may
not be able to find that out (via a computer "popup").

Just something to keep in mind.  Now.. since the printer
in question is an HP.. this might not be an issue...
maybe HP Jet Direct will report everything somehow.

I currently have my Epson ink jet on a DLink print
server (parallel) and also connected USB to two different machines
(with a USB switcher).  The ones with the direct connection
can tell me what the printer is thinking (ink levels, etc.).
