Form run level 3 (Crtl>Backsapce>user name>password>su>password) type
"startx" , or "kdm" but remember you are still in root so be careful , see
if windows behave like they should , maybe even look at the log files and
see if it shows any X errors .
What is the GUI any ways ? Do end session and see what session is selected
as default .
