steve gets the Kewpie doll!  This thing has been running forever, at 
least long before I came on the scene.  I waited for a break in the apps 
it runs and restarted it.  Everything came up fine.  BTW, it is running 
KDE.  Since it does have a couple apps that run all the time, it 
normally needs to be up, so I didn't want to just take it out of X and 
fiddle around.  A complete reboot was the quickest thing to try for me 
and it worked.
