I got this from the Mandrake-Linux list and thought it was good
enough to share:

Here I am, posting from Mandriva / KONKEROR. I installed this OS
from a ISO image I downloaded two days ago. The setup is MUCH
simpler than that of Windows XP: I instructed the BIOS to boot from
a CD-ROM (previously I made a blank partition of 10 GB), and
followed the very easy instructions. Linux started from the CD,
detected ALL of the hardware easily, including a Zoltrix TV Card and
a PCI USB 2.0 card, my old IBM PS/2 keyboard, my new Genius optical
mouse, the USB Epson C63 printer, the Lite-ON DVD/RW, even my
Polaroid USB digial camera, and, the LAN.
Next, I instructed Linux to make a "live setup", and the empty
portion of my hard disk received the appropriate partitionig.
The system (in Spanish, with full keyboard support), then asked me
to extract the CD from the drive, and reboot.
Two hours, and all of the setup was made, even with PDF maker, Open
Office, and a lot of other software.
Earlier, yesterday, I made a XP install from scratch, on the same
hard disk, and it took me eight + hours and a lot of trouble setting
up the TV card and the drivers for my old PC Chips M758LMR+
motherboard / Celeron 800 / 256 MB of RAM, and some $1200 in
software licensing.
Now, I think I wasted 12 years, dealing with Windows. I cannot wait
for your help, guys! I want to throw away Redmond stuff.
Regards,
Luis
