[NTLUG:Discuss] Slackware 9 - keymap

Can some one point me to the correct terms to search for to solve an 
issue I'm having with every single one of my Slackware 9 installs?  
Slack9 does something funky to the keyboard so that my ssh putty 
sessions don't work correctly --or at least the same way they do  on 
other Slackware versions.  Case-in-point: When using pico, CTRL-w, 
CTRL-v, CTRL-k and CTRL-u  emulate the F6, page-down, F9, and F10 keys 
on all Slack versions except Slack 9.  There is something about Slack9 
that prevents this CTRL-key mapping?  What is it that I'm looking for 
and is there anything configuration file I can grab off of another 
server to make Slack 9 servers 'behave'?
