[NTLUG:Discuss] Slackware 9 - keymap

Can some one point me to the correct terms to search for to solve an
issue I'm having with every single one of my Slackware 9 installs?
Slack9 does something funky to the keyboard so that my ssh putty
sessions don't work correctly --or at least the same way they do on
other Slackware versions. Case-in-point: When using pico, CTRL-w,
CTRL-v, CTRL-k and CTRL-u emulate the F6, page-down, F9, and F10 keys
on all Slack versions except Slack 9. There is something about Slack9
that prevents this CTRL-key mapping? What is it that I'm looking for
and is there anything configuration file I can grab off of another
server to make Slack 9 servers 'behave'?
