I've been using SUSE 10.1 on my desktop, and haven't noticed any issues
with USB write speeds.  In fact, yesterday I was using USB to upload 
300MB+ songs to my new phone (which is also an MP3 player) and was 
pleasantly surprised at the speed of the file transfer.
