I personally don't see it being easier than SUSE... YaST has some
warts, but it can make some complex operations very easy. With
that said, the community support around Ubuntu is good... in some
ways, it's what Debian should be (should have been). Obviously
there are some disputes and "feelings" involved with regard
to Ubuntu+Debian... They'll both tell you the "war" is over,
but if you follow the lists and such, it's obvious that Ubuntu folk
feel they have the upper hand (that is... who cares about
Debian if Debian doesn't make it... we have Ubuntu). Whether or
not it is true is irrelevant.
I have been chastised by some Ubuntu fan-boys on my use of
SUSE, which they view as a "newbie" distro since you don't
have to do a lot of manual file edits, etc....
(if that matters... makes me feel that Ubuntu is more like
Fedora+ or Debian+... not necessarily a radical step
forward).

Oh.. I'm not putting you down.. just trying to steer things
back to the original post a bit... which is just to make
people aware of a local Ubuntu group.
On the topic of Ubuntu "hype", there is no doubt in
mind that Ubuntu deserved their 2005 distro of the
year award... it became very popular, very rapidly.
It's almost the sole choice of users on the
notebookforums board (though I'll admit a lot of
what they complain about I haven't had issues
with using SUSE...). Ubuntu has a very polished
look, has a nice update mechanism, has a unique
perspective on root-access and has a very nice
website (well organized).
And it's headed up by a spaceman.... how cool is that?!

Not affected in the least :)
