I would say that you want to buy a MacBook, install Parallels on it and
then you get a cool interface and lots of usability, and have linux
running _at_the_same_time_.  with X installed on the OSX side, you can
run X apps under the virtual linux.

No M$, great usability, and linux to boot.  (and if you MUST at some
point run XP, load it in a vm under parallels)
