It seemed to 'just work' for me. I suspect it may not be a matter of
configuring Firefox to use Thunderbird - but instead to tell Thunderbird
that it should behave as if it's the default mail client.
There is a checkbox in Thunderbird's preferences that says:
"Thunderbird should check to see if it is the default mail client
when starting"
...over to the right there is a button marked "Advanced..." - click on
that an you can check the box that says 'Mail' and then 'Check Now'.
If it's not the default then it'll warn you that it's not and offer to
make itself become the default.
I *think* that's all it takes...but like I said, that seemed to work
itself out automatically when I installed Thunderbird and Firefox.
