IMHO it is a good thing for all Linux when people like Oracle and
Microsoft target leading Linux providers. It gives public
acknowledgment to them as a legitimate business worth competing with
or acquiring.

If Red Hat and SUSE get swallowed by this competition would this be
good or bad for the remaining Linux's?

How about hybrids like Nexenta and SchilliX which are based on the
OpenSolaris kernel? Nexenta has shot to 23 from 306 on DistroWatch.
SchilliX may be OpenSolaris "Lite" rather than Linux but DistroWatch tracks it.
