Add the nameservers your ISP recommends to the resolv.conf file and
see that  your not blocking port 57
e.g.
nameserver 192.168.0.1
nameserver ###.###.##.#
nameserver ##.###.##.#

(Where ###.###.##.# and ##.###.##.# are the nameserver IP addresses
recommended by your ISP.)

You should also check to see that your router is configured properly.
