[NTLUG:Discuss] fixing screensize on a plain TV

I have X (X.org 4.something) working on my TV through
a nvidia riva128 video card (this is a really old
card). However, the display on the TV (and i've tried
several tv's and several distro's), is shifted so the
that ~15 pixels are off the screen at the top and
right. There are corresponding black areas on the left
and bottom of the screen. 

In some older distros (SuSE 6.x to 8.x) there was a
step in X setup where you could align the display
inside of X and not with the front panel controls of
your monitor.  Does anyone know some key search words
that describe X screen alignment so I can fix this?
