[NTLUG:Discuss] Borked LVM volume -- can anyone help?

Hello all.
I'm pretty new at Linux and have been using it as a home file server
(Suse) for about a year. Today it stopped recognizing the LVM volume,
and when I rebooted it wouldn't start up. (Well, it does, but it
drops to a command line and demands the root password).
FTR, the LVM volumes do NOT hold system files...that is on a separate
HDD. The LVM volume spans two 500GB SATA drives.
Now I've lost access to nearly 800GB of data. I've Googled on how to
recover an LVM volume but I just can't make heads or tails of it. I
really feel like I'm in over my head on this one.
Are there any NTLUG folks out there who could come take a look,
perhaps for a small fee? I'm really at my wit's end here.
