on most distros with USB detection enabled, you
shouldn't have to deal with the setup at all, just use
the ttyS5 ttyS6 etc (starting above the highest true
serial port.) you'll need something like a modem to
plug into the ports to verify they are present and
working, but it should automagically setup if you have
a hardware scan in your init sequence.
