Maybe **BUT** when you're talking to a small electronic modules with
ethernet interfaces and whose "brains" consists of a "speedy" little
8051-derivative, you ain't gettin' no encryption wid dat bad boy! :-)
Consequently, telnet's the only game in town... or on the net.

Now, would I put such a device in my DMZ?  He** no.  The little guy goes
behind a trusted router/firewall and I'll VPN in if I need to access
him from the "outside".

Sorry, telnet still has some uses albiet few but certainly not zero.
