Quick summary, the good news is that sbcglobal.net has not changed anything 
for me (yet).

Maybe because I am still using smtp.sbcglobal.net and pop.sbcglobal.net

I have been wanting them to support some type of secure connection to their 
POP3 server forever. Don't care about the SMTP side.

From my perspective, at least they have stayed standards compliant - that's 
basically all the support I need from them.
