I have MythTV working (sort of) on my old Power Macintosh 1Ghz G4 Dual. The 
sort of is no sound while viewing via MythTV and not really quite enough 
machine for 1080i content. If MythTV records something and I play it back 
later, the sound works fine from the captures stream.

If you don't need all of the features of MythTV, Kaffeine will actually save 
the HDTV stream to a file.

I have also almost gotten MythTV working with a Dell D600 laptop, however, the 
most recent LCD Panel failure with it happened right after I started 
attempting to watch an HDTV signal coming from my USB HDTV dongle.
