[NTLUG:Discuss] At last, FC6 up and running

It turned out all I needed to do was re-install GRUB in the MBR. How FC6
failed to install it, I do not know.
The sequence that did it was:
1. FC6 rescue CD and boot.
2. Start GRUB once I got a command line
sh# grub
3. Then this particular sequence of GRUB commands exactly as shown
grub> root (hd1,0)
[grub msg that it recognizes the partition. if you don't get this,
you're in the wrong disk or partition. I had first tried "root (hd0,0)"
but that isn't the boot root for GRUB]
grub> setup (hd0)
[happy msgs from GRUB]
grub> quit
4. Reboot on return to command line from GRUB
sh# reboot
Just as Dell BIOS completes, I hit a key to get the GRUB menu, I didn't
need to because the default is FC6.
Anyhow both FC6 and XP now ok. I went thru the Initial Setup, edited
grub.conf for a 10 second timeout.
Tomorrow, after I recover (gasp, gasp) I'll get my web browser and email
hooked up. Then I can start updating, and looking at gnucash 2.0.x.
Whew,
John
PS. Special thanks to Leroy Tennison.
PPS. I still have no idea what went wrong initially.
